Carol Way Wood - Illustrator
Background/Bio
Carol grew up in a family of artists. Her mother, Grace Godwin Way, was recognized as an accomplished portrait painter, but was probably best known for her paintings of Mt. Monadnock in Southern New Hampshire. Her grandfather (Grace's father) was Frank Godwin, who illustrated during the Golden Age of Illustration.
Carol says: "I knew from the time I was 8 that I wanted to be an illustrator like my grandfather. I enjoyed drawing as a child and that has continued to this day. In addition to early exposure to art materials, my family also engendered a love of animals and living in the country. It is no accident that my favorite subjects are animals and flowers."
Carol attended Colby-Sawyer College, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and graduated with a B.F.A. from The Swain School of Design, New Bedford, MA. She has been freelancing for over 40 years. She paints in watercolors on paper and uses some graphite pencil for accent. She has painted and exhibited her watercolors, done a little cartooning, illustrated children's books, created a line of greeting cards and created items for the gift market.
She is represented by the Francesca Anderson Gallery, Lexington, MA (email them at PortraitsNorth@aol.com) and online at The Art Exchange (www.art-exchange.com). Her fine art gift boxes are available the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin, Texas (http://www.wildflower.org); Handworks Gallery of American Crafts, Acton, MA (http://www.handworksgallery.net) ; Rogers Gallery, Mattapoisett, MA ; and many other shops around the country.
