PAULA BIRD
Editorial and Children's Illustrator
email:pgbird@earthlink.net
After working for ten years as a scenic illustrator for theatre
and film productions, I returned to school to pursue a career
in illustration. Though I loved the social and collaborative
aspects of scenic art, I longed to design my own work. I was
accustomed to painting scenery from 6 feet to 60 feet or more,so
I was surprised to find what an enormous task it can be to
fill an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.
Most of my work is done in acrylics. I also like doing experimental
collage work to justify my scavenging-recycling fetish.
As a scenic artist I have painted at several theatres throughout
New England including the Huntingdon Theatre and the American
Repertory Theatre in the Boston area. Television and film
credits include painting for Zoom and the History Channel,
"Passionada," "Osmosis Jones," "What's
the Worst That Could Happen," and "Meet Joe Black."
I have been published in Harvard Magazine and Senior Golfer
for editorial work and hope to continue in that venue as well
as pursue illustration in the children's market.
